Welcome to Ms. Schmidt's 5th grade class!  This year the 5th grade teachers will be departmentalized.  I will teach ELA and reading.  My partner teachers, Ms. Sellers and Mr. Jackson, will teach science and math, respectively.

The 2023-2024 school year marks my 21st year of teaching with Danville Public Schools.  I moved to Danville from my hometown of Clinton, Iowa in 2003.  I began my DPS teaching career at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School and transferred to Gibson when it transitioned to an elementary school.  

Teaching is my calling and I enjoy it immensely.  It is also extremely challenging and I strive to do my best every day.  My parents instilled a strong work ethic in me as well as a love of learning.  I bring these values with me to school every day.  With hard work and determination, anything is possible! 

This year our class focus will be on:
